Get Web Traffic Using Traffic Tornadoes

Do the holidays ever really suck the life right out of you and your time… *sigh*

Needless to say, I’m finding myself a little behind now in the program, but as much as i do not like it – i am still making progress each and every day and that is what matters.

The latest lesson entitled “Traffic Tornadoes” was really good, informative and motivational. As the name implies, the lesson was focused on… yep, you guessed it! methods used to help get web traffic to your site(s).

I am really looking forward to seeing what i do with these traffic methods.

So here we go – traffic generation – something i have not necessarily been too good at for the reason that it really is “work” and tedious repetitive work to boot!

The goal i have with this process is to get my feet wet, and trample on everything and anything i can do to get web traffic to my site myself. By doing so, and most importantly by analyzing the referring sources, i can determine where to focus my time and energy on based on the results I have received afterwards.

The 80 20 rule states this:

80% of your efforts will drive 20% of traffic
20% of efforts will drive 80% of traffic

So from what i gather from this, (assuming i understood correctly), your time should be broken down by:

Spending 20% of your time working on your content (blog posts, products, etc..)
Spending the other 80% promoting it or driving web traffic to it.

With that said – outsourcing any traffic generation methods that can easily be outsourced is my goal here, assuming that i can get it done for the right price and of course with minimal supervision required.

Now,

Traffic methods suggested by Alex to get web traffic:

Twitter
Twitter is a micro blogging service which you can use to build better relationships with.

You are allowed 140 chars/letters to a twitter post and any post you make on Twitter can be viewed by anybody who is following you.

Think of Twitter as a text messaging service which allows you to send out messages to anybody on your contact list (people who are following you). Can you see the potential for traffic generation and more importantly business here if you have a large amount of people following you?

PS: you can follow me on twitter – http://www.twitter.com/colinpike

Youtube
Create and post your videos to youtube with links displayed inside your video.

Youtube links
Comment on other videos with a link back to your site.

Additional traffic methods I will be putting to use:

Building a Squidoo.com lens

Hubsites.com

Article promotion
Submitting articles to Ezinearticles.com, Goarticles.com and Articlecity.com.

RSS Submit
Another program which i bought which allows me to submit my blogs RSS feed to 65+ RSS Feed sites with a push of a button.

Yahoo answers
Visit Yahoo answers and start answering questions in your niche and leaving your url in your comment.

Optimize each post for SEO
I will be doing keyword research prior to posting any content on my blog. This will allow me to find a keyword phrase(s) that has good traffic and little competition that i can rank organically for. I can then take my chosen keyword phrase, insert it into my post title and optimize the post by inserting the keyword into the content.

Directory submission
Have the software packages Directory Submitter and Submiteaze for submitting my site to directories with.

These software programs basically semi-automate the submission process by taking you to the directories submission page and auto filling pre-defined profile information into required fields.

Put tell a friend form script on site

Search Engine Submission

Submit to Yahoo Site Explorer
Submit to Google Webmaster Tools

Alexa commenting
As the title implies – leaving comments/reviews on this site with a link back to your site.

Social Bookmarking your site/pages

digg.com
technorati.com/faves/
slashdot.org
furl.net
listable.com
propeller.com
flickr.com
searchles.com
socialogs.com
fluther.com
sk-rt.com
stumbleupon.com

You can also choose to use online tools that submit your bookmarks to numerous social bookmarking sites at once, such as:

Social Marker

In addition to this, i also have a plug in called Auto Social Poster on my blog which automatically bookmarks my posts to 20+ different social bookmarking sites.

Updating your Facebook Status after every Twitter post

Every Tweet you make in Twitter will automatically update your FB status, in turn driving more traffic to any link you include in your Tweets. It kills two birds with one stone – saving you time.

To do this, add this application to your Facebook:

http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/

After adding the application to your FB, you’ll noticed a link button that says “Want Twitter to update your Facebook status? Click here”

Click it, and you’re done.

Although i do not know how i am going to go about recording everything i do in an organized fashion just yet, i can only assume that it will be setup in excel and i strongly suggest you do the same when setting up your plan for getting web traffic to your site.

There are tonnes of ways you can go about getting traffic to your web site, however this is a good starting point – don’t you think? :)

Colin
Thanks for your kind words… Sorry that i had not got back to you sooner but i have not really been too focused on my blog! Instead ive just invested in another income stream called Nicheblueprint and its really good. Its like setting up your own argos page.
I will tell you how it goes once i get a grip on how to set it up and all.
Just keep focused, colin, see yourself as the man without a night job and affirm to yourself that you have a successful 100,000 dollar a year online business. Really “feel” it though as tho you already have it with your heart and mind. Try to do this 15 min a day and you will be surprised at what comes along.

Good luck

All the best

Charles

Hi Charles,

Ahh the law of attraction or manifesting is it? :)

Nicheblueprint huh? I’ve seen some of the videos, but as much as i want to get involved in everything out there, it’s not wise at this time. I’m also doing a mentoring program with Ryan Deiss which involves setting up membership sites around a proven market. I just started this as well, so my time is gone!

Do let me know how things go with it though, i’m curious.

Cheers, and thanks for stopping by to leave a comment.

Hi Colin,

I know how you feel when you say you find yourself behind. I also have limited time and it’s just a case of keeping on keeping on, making progress one step at a time.

Just remember, it’s not a race. You are acquiring the tools to do the job and it doesn’t really matter how long it takes. You will get there in the end.

Cheers

Hi Colin,

Sorry I didn’t get back to your post sooner. I’ve really had all my attention focused on my free e-book and product that I’ve been working on for the last year.

Great guns – you have been busy – and that ranking is awesome!

Let me know how it’s going with Ryan Deiss – I’ve heard great things about their program. Really – I am interested. (Only problem is – there is only 1 of me …. but getting close to having my project complete and ready for launch)

Angela’s last blog post..Something hairy going on….

Hi Angela,

I will do my best to post what i am doing within the program as well here on my blog. It looks promising and well worth the risk.

Stay tuned, should be getting more active here shortly… :P

Colin,
Excellent post and blog.

Many thanks for the post on my blog and thanks for the ebook, BlogFu.

I am adding you to my blog roll and following you on Twitter.

I also like the graphics and the mouse over action. Great job.

Please add me to your blog roll.

Thanks,

Hi David,

Thanks for the kind words. :) Stop by again within the next week and there should be an entirely different look here. I’ve outsourced some adjustments and unfortunately since i am so picky it has taken a little longer than expected.

Cheers,

Thanks for visiting my blog. The misspelled keywords tool that you commented on actually generates a ton of misspellings of whatever base keyword(s) you enter. It also gives you the ability to choose the type of misspelling that you want to generate. It also prepares your generated keywords with the proper wrappers for adwords campaigns.

Hi Colin,

Follow you at Twitter. Decided to drop by and have a look. I have to say a big thank you with this post. So many ideas to use and yes, I am going to implement some of them.

I am using onlywire social bookmark and it is wonderful piece of tool. I posted about it in my last blog post.

Of course, with twitter you can share everything which is not possible in your blog. I will be following closely on your twitter. My motto – Share and succeed together.

Anyway, great post again. Will be writing about a post of traffic tornado. I will put your link to the post. It will be in a couple of days time. At the moment, busy with learning video.

Don’t mind have a look at my blog and leave me a comment. No, I am not fishing for comments just to put you at ease but someone commented that I have broken theme, grey background and my posts are sliding to the right side. I want to fix it up but reckon checking with you guys to see if you are seeing the same things. His comment was on my last blog post (BOOKMARK AND SHARE). He is using firefox but fine with me. I am using internet explorer. Blue and white background.

Better stop here before it’s too long. Sorry to ask a favour from you but hope we keep in touch often.

Keep well and wish you every success this year.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey

Yes, your blog does appear to be buggered actually. I use Firefox to browse for the record. You must have removed a tag or style when editing any of your theme files i would assume?

I’ve done this before and it was due to tamping in unfamiliar areas of the theme :)

Anyhow, appreciate the comment of course. Stop by anytime or give me a shout on Twitter if you need help with anything.

Cheers,
Colin

”Gravatar” jeffrey dibble on 01.25.09 at 12:57 pm

Hi Colin,

I was twitter with you earlier on the day about my theme. Thanks for checking out my blog. I use IE as you know I mention in my twitter but download firefox and checked it out myself. My theme is grey in background, broken and in sorry state. Can’t help feeling sorry for myself.

You mention here that you did happen to screw up your theme before. How did you fix it? Did you change your theme? I am going to change the theme again as suggested by you. I don’t want waste anymore time on this. Bigger fish to fry.

I am going to implement some of your ideas on traffics. Powerful staff you recommend here.

I will twitter with you often. Love how you tweets at twitter.

Keep well and prosper.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey

P.S. I thought my earlier comment was not in but see it’s in here. Sorry for the confusion.

”Gravatar” admin on 01.25.09 at 5:49 pm

@Jeffrey

Well whenever i make changes to my template that i am not sure what the result will turn out to be – i will make the change and refresh my browser.

If it works – great! If not, then i will undo the change i made previously and try again.

So it’s hard to say whether or not this might be a result of a change you might have made to your theme or maybe the theme author only optimized for IE as it seems to display fine using that browser?

Either way, if you did make changes to your theme and you wish to keep that theme, then i suppose you could always re-upload that same theme and use the default files again and make any changes you need all over?

This is what i would do, otherwise i would track down a new theme and there are literally tonnes of great looking themes you can get for free online.

Cheers,
Colin

Hi Colin,

I like the way you broke down your traffic pulling methods into categories. That is very smart and well planned. You went on to mention that you will probably be using excel to record your achievements and that is something I haven’t thought of myself. I am currently using Gary Simpson’s daily planner which I’m sure you heard off, but would be very interested to see how you go about doing it on excel.
Do keep me posted if you have a way of presenting it on that format and I look forward to reading your posts in the future.
And by the way, your blog looks great! Clean and uncluttered – like it should be ;-)

If you like the layout of the blog currently, wait until you see the redesign i have coming into effect very soon. I am just redesigning the logo and it’ll be put live as soon as i can!

Ok,

There is NO time to waist on this one and the only way I had of communicating with all of you was to go to each blog and post this message.

First of all, it feels great to be back. If you are one of the lovely people that was following my live soap opera on my baby’s health you would have known that I had to take time out to look after him. Thanks a lot for all the messages in support of that hard time, honestly.

He is doing great now, so I am back full time, desperately trying to recoup all the time I couldn’t dedicate myself to my business. But I need to confess I’ve grown a lot over the past few weeks. Won’t bore you here, check my blog if you want more details. Actually I’ve put some very good resources on a new page called ‘My slightly ‘mental’ exercises’.

Anyway this is about Rich Scheffren and Jay Abraham. Wow, not much introduction needed here, is there?

As you would know I also did the GPS coaching program with Rich at Strategic Profits along with Alex. Jay Abraham is one of Rich’s main mentors for good reason.

**************************************************************
I do beg you to check this link https://schefren.infusionsoft.com/go/MORIcall/srodrigu/.

Yes it is my affiliate link, yes I will make money some how (not quite sure as yet because this is a link to an ENTIRELY FREE 2 HOURS COACHING WITH JAY HIM SELF) Oh My Dear Brazilian Lord..

***************************************************************
Because I am an Strategic Profits’ client, I’ve got my place guaranteed, so that is that. I checked the link and I’ve saved myself a place for one of the calls, there will be 3.

Then I’ve got this email from Brian (COO for Rich) giving me this link to pass it to my list and what do you know? I don’t have one, but I know you guys will benefit SOOO much from this call and is free.

The only one catch is that this is massively urgent. I’ve got the email before their affiliates will start sending it to their own lists. There will be only 3000 phone lines available. Can you imagine how many thousands of people will be teased about this call and will actually act faster than the speed of light?

So please stop whatever you might be doing, click on the link and save yourself a place. It’s free, but as Jay says himself on the form, take seriously, don’t sign up if you are not going to show up, you will actually be taking the place of someone that might really be needing and waisting someone’s right to hear this fantastic man teaching.

Take care and lot’s of love

Thanks for stopping by. Many apologies for the delay here when replying. I’ve been sooooo busy these days – i just can’t seem to find time to even update this blog!

My advice is to only work on one thing at a time. It’s just too hard unless you have help to work on more than one thing. When you do this, your task list just seems to build and build and eventually get’s out of control.

Appreciate the comment and stopping by. Would be curious to know how you are making out as you catch up yourself?

Hi Rick,

Thanks for stopping on by and commenting – i appreciate it!

I have taken a look at your blog and it’s better than i expected for a first blog owner actually. I am pretty picky with how i set up my blogs – so i hope you are not offended by my critiques below.

For starters – i would remove or re-size the footer text. The footer text is actually larger than the header text – which is just not right. :)

You do not appear to have comments enabled on your first post (and perhaps all posts). I would suggest enabling it and allowing visitors to comment.

Finally, because i am picky – i would also remove the background or replace the background with another image – it just looks silly.

The theme isn’t bad and i am not sure what kind of plugins you have on your site right now? But i will say that there are better looking themes if you wanted to go that direction – and for free.

Again, when it comes to visual appeal – i am pretty picky as i believe that it’s easier to take someone more seriously if they put forth the effort to “dress for the occasion”.

If you need any assistance or help with any of the above if you decide to go further – give me a holler and i will do what i can to assist you.

Cheers,
Colin
